Rectangular piece of wood with a concave base lined with blotting paper. The piece is decorated with plant motifs made up of acanthus leaves and arabesques. A heraldic theme adorns the centre of the tray: two lions holding up a shield –hidden under the handle- on top of which there is a helmet. The edges are finished with a back-stitch leather cord design.

The blotter was used to soak up any excess ink on a piece of writing. This piece belonged to a writing set that comprised a blotter, an inkwell and a box for keeping fountain pen tips.
