The museum was born thanks to the donation of its benefactor, the painter Manuel Torres Martinez. the donated around 77 works for the Marín City Council. Manuel Torres was born in Marín in 1901. His main influence was Carlos Maside, with whom he was very good friends. Torres has worked in newspapers with vignettes and drawings, where his admiration for the style and satire of Castelao becomes clear.

His wide career includes almost all the disciplines and trends: landscapes, still life, portraits and engravings, along with a large number of pencil and ink drawings and sculptures. The other halls house temporary exhibitions from contemporary plastic artists and artisans.
