The farmhouse and agricultural farm known as Casa Vázquez is located in Trasliste, which belongs to the borough of Láncara in inland Lugo. The farm’s history dates back over 200 years, yet today it is devoted to organic cattle farming, with its herd of Galician “Rubia”, or blonde, cows, as well as to fruit farming, with apples, also organic, used for cider-making.

The collections of tractors, agricultural machinery and implements included in its holdings reflect the evolution and development of the farmhouse that provides a home for the museum and, by extension, the history of the mechanisation of agriculture in Galicia, with the transformation of this production sector, illustrating to a large extent the changes that have occurred in Galician society since the middle of the 20th century.

The centre’s aim, in the first place, is to retrieve and exhibit the typical agricultural tools and machinery used in the family farm that houses it, along with other pieces of equipment that were acquired for the collection and illustrate the world of farming and, secondly, to show the development and working of an agricultural farm both in the past and today. Muvicla’s uniqueness lies in its potentiality: it bears witness to the past, shows the present of a working, dynamic farm which has had to adapt to the demands of a market in continuous transformation, and looks to the future of rural culture in Galicia through the conservation of the land and landscape.

The fundamental axis around which Muvicla’s collections revolves are the tractors that are displayed in the extension of the old cow pen. Each of these unique tractors were retrieved and restored by Marcos Vázquez.

For visitors unfamiliar with the agricultural world, and specifically tractors, it can be both fascinating and surprising to see that manufacturers of sports and luxury brands vehicles, such as Aston Martin, started their business making tractors.
